Release Notes:
Montreal, Canada's revered orchestral dark-pop outfit The
Dears have announced the release of Missiles, their fourth
studio album, on October 21st 2008. Released worldwide on
Dangerbird Records, home to Silversun Pickups and Sea Wolf,
the album will be preceded by the single 'Money Babies' on
October 6th.
Missiles is a musical departure for The Dears that sees the
band's sound evolving whilst staying true to their earliest
fans. From the extravagant baroque chamber pop of their first
album End of a Hollywood Bedtime Story, to the more
stripped-down style of their critically acclaimed breakthrough
LP No Cities Left, via the beautifully understated tour de
force Gang of Losers, their last release, Missiles is a more
wide-screen affair; full of soaring, euphoric melodies and
lush, uplifting chords with a bittersweet tint. Truly a sonic
pièce de résistance.
Originating in 1995, Murray Lightburn and Natalia Yanchak have
remained the core of this dynamic band, as members have
stepped in and out of the line-up over the course of their
impressive career. Harking back to their beginning, the
forthcoming album is steeped in the band's signature sound yet
embellished with contemporary flavour, charting new territory.
The exquisite and often complex arrangements serve as the
springboard for the urgency in Lightburn's lyricism. His overt
storytelling swirls through epic instrumentation, raw with
emotion and dramatic pauses, playing out like a cinematic
romance with moving interludes.
